Exclusive: Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest make offers for Saudi Pro League ace keen for European transfer

Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are seeking for a new right-back, and TEAMtalk can reveal that the Premier League clubs have approached the agent of Al-Hilal’s Saud Abdulhamid.

The Saudi Arabian champions’ right-back is regarded as one of Asia’s best full-backs, and several European clubs have expressed interest in him.

The first team to move in recent weeks was French club Toulouse, which, after alerting the Saudi club that they had begun talks with the player’s representation, met with Al-Hilal to determine the negotiation margin.

From Al-Hilal’s perspective, the club that broke the record for the most straight victories in football history (34) is willing to let Abdulhamid go this summer.

The right-back’s contract expires in 2025, therefore that is one of the primary reasons they have taken that approach. The discussion of a future renewal is still in its early stages.

Furthermore, the 36-cap Saudi international, who will turn 25 next month, believes it is time to take the next step in his career and relocate to Europe. Moving to a major European league would allow him to pursue a childhood desire.

Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest make their moves.

Following Toulouse and now Olympique Marseille, who are confirming Roberto De Zerbi’s appointment as manager, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest have taken concrete moves with his agent, as well as contacted Al-Hilal about a potential transfer.

To date, nothing has been accomplished, and no agreement has been signed. However, new negotiations with both Premier League clubs are expected as early as next week.

Abdulhamid is a regular starter at right-back for his national team and one of the best homegrown players in the Saudi Pro League right now.

Last season, Abdulhamid appeared 51 times for Al-Hilal, scoring four goals and contributing nine assists to go with his strong defensive performances.

Last season, Al-Hilal dominated Saudi Arabia, winning both the league and the cup at the expense of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.
