Southampton are set to sign a player who wants to join Leeds, according to a report

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United have encountered a stumbling block in their pursuit of acquiring Joe Rodon on a permanent basis this summer, as Southampton are planning a bid for the defender.

On June 13, James Marshment stated that Saints were among the suitors for Tottenham’s Rodon, who recorded 17 clean sheets in 43 Championship outings in 2023-24.

It is understood that the Welsh international would be willing to return to Elland Road on a permanent basis, but Leeds must sell before spending this summer.

According to the report, Spurs will demand between £12 and £15 million for Rodon.

Leeds United maintains hope for Rodon deal.

Rodon played perhaps the finest football of his career under Daniel Farke this season, and he would have been a major part of Leeds’ promotion if they had defeated Saints in the play-off final.

Southampton now have the Premier League clout that the Whites would have had, though it’s possible the player may still choose to return to Elland Road; the two are apparently competing for Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare.

Rodon has only played 15 top-flight games for Spurs since coming from hometown club Swansea City in 2020, and at 26, he understands that the next deal must be just right.

The defender will be thinking ahead, particularly the very real possibility that Leeds and Southampton will have switched spots by this time next year.

Leeds’ priority this month is to balance the books by recuperating revenue from player sales before making investments of up to £15 million in fees.
