Leeds United could make many changes during the summer transfer window, and 49ers Enterprises will be trying to take advantage.
With Leeds missing out on promotion to the Premier League this season, Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Wilfried Gnonto, and Archie Gray have all been linked with departures.
Leeds are in a great financial position thanks to a large, if unnamed, windfall from their agreement with Red Bull, even if some sales may be required to maintain compliance with financial fair play laws.
The 49ers will seek to acquire funds in a variety of ways to keep their balance sheets in order, while avoiding the sale of too many of its prized assets.
Cody Drameh, along with numerous other returning loanees, is one player who may be sacrificed this summer, despite the club saying he has been given a new deal at Elland Road.
Following a successful season on loan with Birmingham City, some may see this as Daniel Farke welcoming the 22-year-old back into the group. However, this may not be the underlying explanation.
Cody Drameh is handed a new deal with Leeds United, a stroke of genius for the 49ers
If a player under the age of 24 rejects a contract from their current club and signs elsewhere, the player’s new team will owe them a compensation money.
With Drameh being offered a new deal, Leeds may either benefit from his signing by requesting a significantly larger transfer fee or get a compensation money if he declines the offer.
The 49ers should be congratulated for this. The 22-year-old is unlikely to force his way into Farke’s plans, having made just a few outings at Elland Road since joining from Fulham in 2020.
So, in either case, the Whites will make some money off the player, who appears to have no future with the club.
