Leeds United has only a few players set to compete in Euro 2024, but one of them has been pounded by his country’s media despite playing 90 minutes on Wednesday night.
Leeds captain Liam Cooper suffered a knock in a friendly against Gibraltar last week, but he is expected to remain in Scotland’s team for the summer event in Germany.
Max Wober is likely to play a key part for Ralf Rangnick’s Austria, which defeated Serbia 2-1 this week. Robin Koch is still on the books until June 30 and will play for Germany at Euro 2024.
The only other is Rasmus Kristensen, a Danish defender who is expected to return to Elland Road this summer after failing at Roma. Diego Llorente is poised to stay at Roma, but Kristensen will return.
He is a member of Denmark’s Euro 2024 squad, and on Wednesday he helped his team defeat Sweden 2-1. Kristensen played the entire 90 minutes, but the £10 million man did not persuade his country’s media.
Rasmus Kristensen, a Leeds resident, has been chastised by the national media.
In their Euro 2024 warm-up match against a low-quality Sweden side, Denmark used Kristensen on the right alongside Palace’s Joachim Andersen and Leicester’s Jannik Vestergaard.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored off a Christian Eriksen corner kick to start the game. Alex Isak tied after a shot deflected off Kristensen and found Isak, who scored before Eriksen struck a spectacular late winner.
A solid win for Denmark heading into Euro 2024, but Danish media BT was unimpressed with Leeds player Kristensen. He received 3/6 stars: “What just occurred there, Kristensen? Moved to central defense.
“But was part of an awfully uncertain trio in the first half. It improved in the second half, and he topped it off with a fantastic dribble that nearly ended in a dream box, according to Danish media BT.
Kristensen prepares for an uncertain future ahead of Euro 2024
The fact that he was wearing the number 25 shirt shows that Kristensen barely made the Denmark team. It comes after being sacked by Denmark while at Leeds before scoring against Wolves.
His form at Roma has not been particularly compelling, but it has been sufficient to earn him a spot on the 26-man squad that will travel to Germany. However, he is more likely to sit on the bench for his country.
With his concentration on Euro 2024, Leeds may have to wait until Denmark is eliminated before making any decisions about Kristensen’s future. While he plans to return, his future is not at Elland Road.
