Colin Fray has lavished praise on one Nottingham Forest player as the dust settles on the 2023/24 season.
The Reds succeeded to stay in the Premier League, and they will now have a third chance at the top tier.
The 2023/24 season was a bit of a drag, with VAR judgments, a four-point punishment, and a managerial change all complicating matters.
Still, there were some positives, and the club’s recruitment efforts over the summer were impressive.
There were certain mistakes, most notably the hiring of two average goalkeepers, but Forest overall learnt some lessons.
Fray has now singled out one man for appreciation in a recent assessment of the campaign that has recently ended.
What Colin Fray said about Forest star Murillo
The Brazilian defender has been in exceptional form during the 2023/24 season and was rightfully crowned Player of the Year.
Forest beat Manchester City to sign Murillo, and for £10.4 million, he’s shown to be incredible value.
Now, Fray has heaped praise on the left-sided player, who has been linked with many Premier League clubs ahead of the summer season.
The pundit informed BBC Sport that the Brazilian defender cost roughly £11 million despite only playing 13 professional games in his career.
“He’s been a delight to watch, and has hugely increased his value in just one season.”
Forest faces a fight to keep their top player.
According to Who Scored, Murillo had more successful dribbles than any other central defender in the Premier League last season.
He’s demonstrated a defensive approach that, no offense to Forest, will pique the interest of larger clubs.
Murillo also ranked in the top ten for accurate long passes during the 2023/24 season.
As a result, Forest will have to struggle to keep Murillo this summer, with stronger clubs surrounding the City Ground.
The Forest recruitment staff deserves a lot of credit for this transaction.
They are frequently chastised for some of the duds that have been added, but at just shy of £11 million, Forest will stand to make a large profit if they sell Murillo.
