The defender has been an important man for Leeds, but he will now return to Tottenham after his loan stay finishes.
Despite their failure to gain promotion to the Premier League, Leeds United may still be able to provide Joe Rodon with everything he seeks in the next stage of his career.
Much of Leeds’ success this season has been built on a strong backline, with Welsh defender Rodon joining international teammate Ethan Ampadu in the centre of the defence. The 26-year-old impressed after joining on loan from Tottenham, but he is poised to return to Spurs after his loan stay at Elland Road ends.
It is unknown whether he is in Ange Postecoglou’s plans for North London, but he is expected to leave the club this summer. Signing Rodon on a permanent basis would be a significant assist to Daniel Farke’s 2025 promotion hopes, though whether Leeds will face Premier League competition for his services remains to be seen.
One thing is certain: Rodon has thoroughly enjoyed his time in West Yorkshire, and this could be the key to his next move. He has spoken about the need for continuity, having spent a season on loan at French club Rennes before to his Leeds move.
Rodon told the Mail earlier this season, “It would be nice to have stability and know where I am next season.” I’ve always wanted to play at the highest level, and maybe I’ll be able to do so with Leeds, but anything can happen.
“I don’t want to look too far into the future, but I love life here, and Leeds feels like a second home to me. I’m simply focused on doing my best and getting this club back to where it belongs.”
Farke remains a huge fan of the Welshman, calling him ‘a role model for modern defenders’, but his future is only one of several issues that the Leeds manager will have to deal with in the coming weeks.
