Following recent uncertainty over his future, Nuno Espirito Santo is “expected” to begin the 2024/25 season as Nottingham Forest’s head coach.
Rumours concerning Nuno’s employment have circulated since the Reds earned Premier League safety last weekend. The Portuguese has been associated with other teams, while Forest has been linked to other managers.
However, according to The Sun, Nuno “is expected” to be in charge of the City Ground when the new season begins in August. It is claimed that he “retains” the faith of owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Less than 24 hours after Nuno led the Reds to survival last Sunday, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano indicated “there’s a chance” he’ll leave the club this summer. He was then mentioned as a possible candidate for the Bayern Munich post, with teams in both his home country and Spain keeping an eye on his status.
Forest was subsequently linked to other leaders. They were claimed to be interested in ex-Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi and Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano, with Marinakis enlisting the help of super agent Jorge Mendes to “recommend” choices.
The conjecture arose after Nuno made a cryptic comment about his future in his final pre-match press conference of the season. Prior to the match against Burnley, he was asked if he intended to be part of Marinakis’ vision for the club and simply said, “I’m here now.”
Following his team’s 2-1 victory at Turf Moor, he described the campaign as his most difficult in management. He said, “When you ask me if it was hard, it was hard because we didn’t have the opportunity to build what is most important to me in football – the bond.” Now we can tell that the players are trusting us and each other.
“Clearly the most hardest. We now need to rest. Everyone needs to rest because it was quite difficult. The players, staff, and supporters need to rest. “Now is the time to celebrate – truly celebrate.”
