Leeds United concluded the regular league season with only one win in their final six matches, but Daniel Farke’s team made it through to the Championship play-off final by defeating Norwich City.
The Championship play-off final is quickly approaching, and Leeds United may be just 90 minutes away from clinching an immediate Premier League return. The stakes could not be higher for the Whites or Southampton, as reaching the promised land provides both clubs a significant cash injection as well as the opportunity to play against some of the world’s finest.
The lottery of the play-offs has already claimed one life, with Norwich City sacking David Wagner following their humbling semi-final second leg loss at Elland Road. A rampaging United annihilated the Canaries, winning 4-0 to reach Wembley.
Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor is concerned about Daniel Farke’s status if United fail to win on Sunday. Preparing for the big game, the former Aston Villa forward told TalkSPORT: “It’s a 50-50 for me, whoever turns up on the day.” David Wagner was fired, and I wouldn’t be surprised if whoever loses on Sunday fires their manager.
“It is ruthless.” Leeds have more pace up front with [Crysencio] Summerville and [Wilfried] Gnonto. Southampton plays excellent aggressive football, so this will undoubtedly be an enjoyable game.”
Brendan Rodgers, Celtic’s manager, has anticipated an interesting match this Saturday. The Northern Irishman, who showed interest in joining United after leaving Leicester City last summer, said: “So thrilled for Leicester to get promoted, amazing club. It’s a shame the club fell down; Enzo [Maresca] has done an excellent job.
“The other two clubs for the play-offs, I’ve been in that position with Swansea – it’s such a big game, the repercussions are enormous. I am confident it will be a really good final.”
