Girona, Manchester City’s sister club, is trying to boost its team for next season and is reportedly targeting a Liverpool player this summer.
Girona, owned by City Football Group (CFG), has had an incredible season and qualified for the Champions League with their second 4-2 victory over Barcelona in early May.
However, due to their ties to Manchester City, they may not even be able to compete in Europe’s top tournament next season.
The club and CFG have also recently been under criticism for possible financial irregularities in the recruitment of star striker Artem Dovbyk, potentially adding to the 115 allegations leveled against Manchester City.
Regardless, the Spanish club is ready to bolster their roster following a successful season under Michel, and they may seek a transfer for departed Liverpool player Thiago Alcantara.
THIAGO INTERESTS CFG-OWNED GIRONA.
Liverpool stated earlier on Friday that Thiago would leave the club this summer, something many fans had already accepted.
The 33-year-old has played just ten minutes this season after missing virtually the entire season due to injury, and he will depart this summer alongside Jurgen Klopp, a number of staff members, including Joel Matip.
According to a recent Sport article (via Sport Witness), Girona is interested in Thiago, and the midfielder has already made contact with the club.
Thiago allegedly prefers a return to Catalonia, where he previously played under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, making Girona an appealing possibility.
It would also mean that he might meet Liverpool in the Champions League next season, as long as Girona is permitted to participate and Thiago is fit.
According to Spanish writer Luis Martin and Carrusel Deportivo’s El Bar (via El Desmarque), who back up Sport’s assertions of Girona interest, Real Betis is another option for Thiago.
However, they also report that two English clubs are interested in the veteran, despite Thiago’s preference to return to Spain.
