The game was all about Jurgen Klopp from the stands. Liverpool fans began chanting his name almost immediately after the game began, and it rang throughout Villa Park.
But Klopp received a standing ovation from the home crowd as he exited the pitch.
According to The Athletic’s James Pearce, Klopp was hailed by Villa fans as he headed for the tunnel.
It’s nice to see Klopp receiving the accolades he deserves. He was a superb Premier League manager who brought a new wave of excitement to England’s top division during his nine-year tenure at Liverpool.
During the years when Manchester City dominated everything, Klopp was a worthy competitor, and likely the only one, until Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal appeared in the final year or two.
It will be strange not to have him in the Premier League next season. Not having him as Liverpool manager will be equally stranger.
