Leeds United are now preparing for the Championship playoffs, having finished third and missed out on automatic promotion. Daniel Farke’s side will meet Norwich City in the semi-finals on Sunday and the following Thursday.
Leeds will go into those games as favourites, but the playoffs are unpredictable, as the Whites are well aware. As preparations continue, we’ve compiled all of the newest Elland Road news.
Norwich star’s ‘pressure’ accusation.
Norwich City’s Jack Stacey says the pressure is on Leeds United in the forthcoming playoff semi-final. He told the Pink Un: “If you look at the tie, we finished sixth, and Leeds have been pushing for automatic promotion for a long time, so the focus is primarily on them.
“It doesn’t mean we won’t give it our all to get there, but I believe the pressure is tilted in their favor, which we can savor. Obviously, they’ll be sad because they had a chance to advance automatically and are now looking into the play-offs. We had a long-term goal of making the playoffs, and we have accomplished it. They’re a really good team; we’re not taking anything for granted, but it’s something we’ll enjoy.”
Ayling latest
According to Teesside Live, Middlesbrough are ‘expected’ to sign Leeds player Luke Ayling on a free transfer this summer. Ayling has been on loan with Boro for the second half of the season, with his Leeds contract expiring this summer.
Sheffield United have apparently expressed interest following their relegation, but according to the newest reports, Ayling’s current loan club is at the top of the list as the defender’s contract expires in two months. Leeds are set to offer Ayling permission to clinch a deal before his current contract expires.
