Liverpool easily defeated Tottenham today, as they turned up and delivered in Jurgen Klopp’s second-to-last game at Anfield.
The German manager watched in joy as his Liverpool squad delivered the type of performance we’ve come to expect from them over the years.
Liverpool pressured, harried, and dogged Spurs from the start, leading 2-0 at halftime before scoring twice more in the first 20 minutes of the second half to seal the victory.
Mo Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo, and Harvey Elliott all scored to put the Reds up 4-0, and the Anfield crowd was ecstatic.
Of course, identifying just one player in such an excellent team effort is difficult.
However, in an interview with Sky Sports after Cody Gakpo scored the third goal, Gary Neville took the time to praise the Dutchman’s overall effort.
Cody Gakpo impresses for Liverpool v Tottenham
Neville praised Cody Gakpo for his performance in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Tottenham during a Sky Sports interview.
“Emerson’s day just got much worse! Gakpo has been quite good today. He woke up early, but he still had a lot to accomplish. “To get the power on the header and into the corner is fantastic,” Neville explained.
Gakpo proves himself at Liverpool.
Cody Gakpo has not had the most fruitful of seasons, but at the age of 24, he is progressively improving and on his path to being a valuable member of Liverpool’s squad.
Despite not scoring many goals, the Dutchman has an impressive 14 goals in all competitions and, more importantly, he has made himself accessible and played 50 games this season.
That is the hallmark of a guy with the durability to contribute to the cause, and Liverpool will be pleased to know they have a man like that moving into next season.
Gakpo’s performance today was, to the naked eye, one of his best in Liverpool red.
More of the same next season, and the Reds may be able to avoid signing another new forward.
