Leeds United, Southampton, West Bromwich Albion, and Norwich City compete in the Championship play-offs, with promotion to the Premier League at stake.
If Leeds United are to keep their promotion hopes alive, they must pull themselves out of a downward spiral in time for the play-offs. Daniel Farke’s side finished the regular season in poor manner, losing four of their final six games and falling out of the automatic promotion places.
The Whites finished third after losing 2-1 to Southampton on Saturday. They now face a two-legged play-off semi-final against Farke’s former club, Norwich City.
The victors will meet Southampton or West Bromwich Albion at Wembley Stadium on May 26, with a Premier League berth on the line. Keys and Gray believe United and Southampton are the most likely to go to the final.
Keys said on beIN SPORTS following the final day of the regular season: “Leeds, who were thrashed at home today by Southampton, will join the Saints in the play-offs. They finished third and fourth, respectively.
“I believe they are the favourites to meet in the play-off final. Perhaps today is an indication of what might happen in that game if it comes to fruition.”
United will be seeking for their sixth win in the play-offs. They will be confident of reaching the final after defeating the Canaries both at home and away this season.
Farke remarked, “You know how my record is in the playoffs?” I’ve never lost a game, and I’ve never played in the playoffs, by the way.
“It does not matter. Leeds have lost in the play-offs previously, but it was a completely different group, and I was not in charge, so it makes no difference. Obviously, we’re here to change things. That’s why I’m here.
