Liverpool’s new home kit for the 2024/25 season was formally introduced by the club this morning, but Reds fans are sure to be upset with Nike about one part of it.
The design itself has received mixed early feedback on social media, but it may not be the major reason why many supporters will be dissatisfied with the American company.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Nike has upped the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for each of its teams’ shirts for next season, meaning that LFC fans will have to dig deeper into their pockets if they want to buy the new shirt.
A basic stadium shirt will now cost £80, with a kids version priced at £60, both up £5 from the previous year. Meanwhile, children’s kits have been priced at £52, up 15.7% from the previous price of £44.95.
Even though LFC has set the kit price lower than the recommended value and is charging less than other Premier League clubs on Nike’s roster, such as Chelsea and Tottenham (Liverpool Echo), the manufacturer’s request for a pricing hike will not sit well with Reds fans.
The fan base has already been struck with increased ticket costs for next season, causing a severe and reasonable protest, and they will not like paying even more than the already exorbitant cost of the team’s clothing.
There have been indications of a projected return to Adidas beginning with the 2025/26 campaign, a potential move that has been widely welcomed by Liverpool fans on social media, and that swell of opinion is expected to grow further as a result of this news.
We’ll leave it up to you to determine what you think of the new uniform, but it’s frustrating that Nike has sought to extract even more money than before from the coffers of dedicated followers who are already spending a lot of money to express their love for LFC.
