All the latest Leeds United transfer news from the January transfer window, with updates on Joe Gelhardt and Ben Johnson.
Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumors for Monday, January 15.
West Brom enters Gelhardt race.
Joe Gelhardt might still stay in the Championship despite exit talks from Leeds United, with West Brom entering the January fight for his services. According to Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, the Baggies are interested in signing the 21-year-old, as are Celtic, Rangers, Plymouth, and Blackburn.
Gelhardt has been handed restricted minutes by Daniel Farke, which has sparked interest from a number of clubs. Given West Brom are Leeds’ immediate promotion rivals, allowing a departure to Carlos Corberan’s side appears improbable.
The England under-21 international is under contract at Elland Road until 2027, but he must now make a significant decision with his minutes in Yorkshire undetermined.
Johnson declines deal amid Leeds interest.
According to Football Insider, West Ham player Ben Johnson has rejected a new contract offer despite January interest from Leeds United. The 23-year-old’s current contract at the London Stadium expires in the summer, and he appears to be running it down, with Leeds eager to take advantage.
The Whites face stiff competition for his signature, with Rangers, Sheffield United, and Southampton all interested in signing the defender. Johnson has only played 636 minutes for West Ham this season, with 91 of those coming in league action.
Johnson’s loan move could happen before the deadline, as he wants to play regular first-team football. Given that both Djed Spence and Luke Ayling left the club earlier in the transfer window, there is a definite need in Farke’s squad for defensive reinforcement, which Johnson may fill in the Whites’ push for an immediate return to England’s top flight.
