Leicester City winger Stephy Mavididi has launched a scathing shot at Leeds and Georginio Rutter following their Championship victory.
The Foxes overcome a mid-season slump to win the title and clinch an instant return to the Premier League when Leeds lost 4-0 at QPR on Friday, April 26.
Daniel Farke’s side currently appears headed for the playoffs, with Ipswich requiring only a point from their final game of the season, a 2-1 victory against Coventry on Tuesday, April 30, to seal automatic promotion.
And Mavididi, a crucial player of the Foxes squad this season, turned to his personal X account on May 1 to fire shots at the Whites, namely Rutter, by bringing up some old comments from Leeds’ win over Leicester earlier in the season.
The 25-year-old shared a video of himself brushing his teeth, with a video of Rutter declaring Leeds “are the best team” playing in the background.
Leeds United has its playoff team talk sorted.
It’s been a long season for Leeds and its fans, and the emotional rollercoaster has reached its climax in the last month or so, when Farke’s side managed only four points from five games.
They only have themselves to blame for failing to secure automatic promotion when the opportunity arose, but with the playoffs now appearing to be unavoidable, they must find a way to get back up and running.
Mavididi has every right to put salt in the wounds. Leeds pursued Leicester down all season and disintegrated, but the Foxes eventually performed what was expected of them and not only returned to the Premier League but also won the title.
However, the players, Farke, and the supporters now have enough incentive for the season’s final games. They should print a screenshot of Mavididi’s post and plaster it on the wall. Nothing else needs to be said.
Leeds are still the strongest team in the promotion race, and while football isn’t played on paper, if they don’t advance, they’ll only have themselves to blame.
