Arne Slot, the incoming Liverpool manager, is apparently looking for players who can play in a new configuration.
The Feyenoord manager, who is likely to succeed Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season, is expected to line up the Reds in a new 4-2-3-1 configuration, which is quite different from their normal 4-3-3.
According to a recent Fichajes article, one of the players required to execute such a difficult and rigorous structure is another holding midfielder who can fit in at the base.
Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella is the most likely target.
According to the most recent sources, the Italian maestro is a candidate to replace the outgoing Thiago in the Reds’ squad and is seen as a player with the technical versatility to establish a “dynamic” partnership with Alexis MacAllister.
Barella, who won the 2020 Euros with Italy, has only two years left on his contract at the San Siro and is worth roughly £70 million (TM).
