Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have weighed in on Nottingham Forest’s Premier League relegation struggle before of their encounter against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Reds are just one position and one point above the relegation zone, in 17th place, with four games remaining, the first of which is against Pep Guardiola’s champions at the City Ground today (4:30pm).
Lineker emphasized the importance of Forest’s appeal against their four-point deduction for violating Premier League financial rules being resolved quickly, while Shearer believes Nuno Espirito Santo’s side is “in the driving seat” to stay up, ahead of Luton Town and Burnley, who are in 18th and 19th place, respectively.
Lineker remarked on Match of the Day: “It’s going to be tight, and I’d want to move your attention to Nottingham Forest’s final fixture of the season, or Burnley’s last fixture, which is Burnley vs Forest.
“I believe Forest has an appeal pending over their four-point deduction. I believe they need to address the appeal before the end of the season. An appeal commission cannot relegate sides to lower levels. You have to get it done before, right?”
Shearer replied, “I agree. And they’ve got Sheffield United away, and you said Burnley away in the last game of the season, so I’d say Forest is unquestionably in control, and they’ll probably just have enough.
