Leeds United’s scant experience in the Premier League over the past 20 years means they cannot be considered a favourite in their promotion battle with Leicester City and Southampton.
Leicester City, the 2016 Premier League champions, have spent ten of the last twenty years in the top flight, whereas Southampton has had thirteen. For Leeds, it was four. Farke was undoubtedly implying that the years of spending power and infrastructure supplied will put Leeds on a weaker basis in 2023/24.

Farke was undoubtedly implying that the years of spending power and infrastructure supplied will put Leeds on a weaker basis in 2023/24.
Farke believes that the average ages of the sides’ different lineups prevent Leeds from being regarded a favourite in this promotion race. However, the German refused to swap one of his players for his opponents’.
“We are a pretty, pretty young side and sometimes this club is amazing,” Farke added. “In one category, we are clearly one of the top teams in the league, if not the greatest.
“These are our supporters.” This club’s supporters are second to none. They are among the greatest in the country, if not the top, but just because we have this expertise does not mean we are the clear favorite.
“I already love this club, and I am ambitious. I told you what I want for this club in the medium and long term, but when I compare how many years we’ve spent in the Premier League over the last 20 years to Leicester or Southampton, you won’t consider us the clear favourite.
“When you look at the average age of the starting lineup, you won’t consider us a strong favourite. We have wonderful players, and I’ll tell you what, I don’t want to replace one of them. I completely believe in this squad and trust these individuals, but because we are not the finished product, I cannot guarantee that we will always deliver the best results.”
