The latest Nottingham Forest news is that the defender was left out of Cardiff City’s FA Cup matchday squad against Sheffield Wednesday.
Jonathan Panzo, a Nottingham Forest loanee, was pulled out of Cardiff City’s FA Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday owing to a ‘arrangement’ between the two clubs.
Panzo joined Cardiff on a season-long loan in the summer, but has battled for playing time so far this season. The 23-year-old defender has appeared in only four Championship games and has yet to start a competitive match for the club.
His only full 90 minutes came in a Carabao Cup match against Blackburn in September, which Cardiff lost 5-2. Panzo came on as a late substitute in the club’s 2-1 victory over QPR on New Year’s Day.
However, he was not in the team when the Bluebirds faced fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup on Saturday. Following the game, Cardiff assistant manager Nikolaos Karydas justified his absence.
The deal between the clubs was revealed while speculation over Panzo’s short-term future swirled. According to journalist Darren Witcoop, the defender’s future is ‘up in the air’, with Forest eager for more playing time.
Other Championship clubs are also interested, while Dutch side Vitesse is thought to have continued its interest from the summer. The agreement between the sides could indicate that Forest are considering recalling him, with the defender’s lack of FA Cup cup ties increasing his appeal to other clubs, while Forest could also utilize him themselves if he returns and does not go out on loan again.
Panzo joined Coventry City on loan last season, helping the club reach the Championship play-off final. He appeared in 32 matches across all competitions, but came on as a late substitute in the final at Wembley Stadium.
