The Whites are preparing for a future without the player. Leeds United are currently fighting for an immediate return to the Premier League via automatic promotion from the Championship.
The Whites are presently third in the table, with only two points separating them from Leicester and Ipswich in the top three, while Southampton are three points behind in fourth.
Daniel Farke’s club will be hoping to get over the finish line in the final three games of the regular season, but they will need the two teams above them to falter before they can focus on the impending summer transfer window.
Leeds have a number of senior players on loan after being relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, and one player is said to have little chance of joining Farke’s team in the future.
Leeds wants to move on from Brenden Aaronson.
According to Football Insider, USA international Brenden Aaronson will not be part of Leeds’ team for the 2024/25 season, regardless of the tier.
According to the source, the former Norwich City and Borussia Monchengladbach manager has no room in his squad for the American attacker, whether in the Premier League or the Championship.
According to the report, the Yorkshire club will be ‘desperate’ to cash in on its current loanees, including Aaronson, if they do not secure promotion, but they may loan them out again if necessary.
The Whites swooped to recruit the offensive midfielder from Austrian club RB Salzburg for a reputed sum of £25 million, and it remains to be seen how much of that they can recoup.
He is now on loan with Union Berlin in the Bundesliga in Germany, having joined them last summer, but Football Insider reports that he is unlikely to be signed again next season.
Why Brenden Aaronson should not have a future with Leeds
The 23-year-old has had a disappointing season with Union, as the Leeds loanee has unable to establish himself as a regular starter.
Aaronson, once dubbed a “weed” by Jesse Marsch for his quick development, has started 10 of his 25 Bundesliga games in 2023/24, contributing two goals and zero assists from an attacking midfield position.
This could explain why the German club is unlikely to seek another move for the American midfielder, who has an average of 9.9 completed passes per game in the league, during the summer transfer window.
22/23 Premier League | Brenden Aaronson |
---|---|
Appearances | 36 |
Sofascore rating | 6.51 |
Goals | 1 |
Assists | 3 |
Duel success rate | 40% |
As shown in the table above, the £45k-per-week whiz had a tough season in the Premier League following his £25 million transfer from Salzburg. Over the previous 365 days, Aaronson has been in the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers for blocks (2.16) per 90 and the top 3% for tackles (2.30) per 90 for Union and Leeds, demonstrating that he works hard for his side defensively.
However, he ranks in the bottom 24% for non-penalty goals (0.14) per 90 and the bottom 2% for assists (0.00) per 90, demonstrating how little the midfielder contributes offensively.
As a result, it is not unexpected that Farke does not see Aaronson’s place in his team and is prepared to sell him, as his final third statistics over the last two seasons have been dismal, and the Whites should now do everything they can to offload him permanently this summer.
