Dan Plumley has stated that the 49ers Enterprises will invest in Leeds United if they are promoted to the Premier League this season.
Kalvin Phillips appears to be first on the hit list in West Yorkshire, with £30 million believed to be sufficient to complete a spectacular homecoming deal.
The finance expert admitted that investing is vital following promotion, and if Phillips hits the ground running, it would be a wise decision.
“It’s also the necessary evil of having to invest in your squad if you get re-promoted,” he told MOT Leeds News exclusively.
“If he is going to command that kind of sum, it is a transfer that is dependent on Leeds’ return to the Premier League; I don’t think you make those kinds of transfers for that kind of value in the Championship.
“Assume promotion and you are looking at your team; we know Leeds will be eager to invest; if you believe you can tempt him back and resurrect that player, which we know is in there, then it could be a smart investment.
“It is a huge number, and you must go with caution, but I believe Leeds will spend some money if they win promotion, and he will be a player they seek for good cause.
“If it comes off, it looks a very good transfer but it is dependent on promotion for sure.”
Will Leeds United sign Kalvin Phillips?
This would split opinion at Elland Road, as the midfielder has had a terrible two years since leaving the club to join Manchester City.
After barely playing under Pep Guardiola, a January loan move to West Ham has resulted in him being filmed cursing at fans.
Sometimes it’s best to overlook the past; time will tell.
