Leeds United sensation Archie Gray is at the centre of some major transfer news, according to Sun columnist Alan Nixon, with Borussia Dortmund keeping an eye on the 18-year-old.
Nixon stated on Sunday (7 April) via his Patreon account that the German giants are well positioned to sign the teenager if Leeds fail to be promoted from the Championship, leaving Gray with a “massive” decision to make about his future.
Archie, the newest member of the Gray family’s footballing dynasty at Elland Road, has been a constant presence in the Whites’ promotion campaign this season, starting practically every game at right-back or central midfield for a Leeds team that is presently third in the table.
When discussing the benefits of a move to Germany, Nixon stated that “Dortmund want midfield prospect Gray to follow the Jude Bellingham path to the top, via the Bundesliga.”
Gray appears destined for greatness; it’s up to him how he gets there.
It’s no surprise that Dortmund is looking into Gray’s transfer availability given their impeccable track record of developing world-class players from young talent, and given that the teenager has ‘already been picked out by Gareth Southgate as a future England international’, Europe’s top clubs are circling.
The Black-Yellows have also had success with English recruits in recent years, as shown with Bellingham, Jadon Sancho, and, more recently, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and given Gray’s obvious talent, it’s easy to see why they could be a favored destination if the 18-year-old leaves Leeds this summer.
That, however, is heavily dependant on the Whites’ push for promotion, with Nixon stating that Gray’s preference is ‘to get to the Premier League with Leeds’, having spent his entire life at the club.
However, a direct path to the Champions League may be too tempting for the kid to resist down.
