Aston Villa are undoubtedly on the rise this season, thanks to Unai Emery’s meticulous coaching.
The Spaniard was regularly derided during his time at Arsenal, but he’s enjoying the last laugh right now, taking his team to the Europa Conference League knockout rounds while sitting comfortably in second place in the Premier League league, only two points behind champions Liverpool.
The Villains are playing some of the finest football seen in years, with only Pep Guardiola’s swashbuckling Manchester City scoring more than them. Though they’ve been rather quiet on the transfer market this season, a chance appears to have presented itself.
According to Calciomercato (via Fichajes), the Midlands-based club is interested in bringing West Ham flop Felipe Anderson back to the Premier League.
With 454 career appearances, the 30-year-old clearly has the experience to fit right in at Villa Park (transfermarkt), but fans will be justifiably concerned that the club is looking at a player who only scored 12 goals in 73 West Ham outings (transfermarkt).
That said, Emery has gained the fans’ trust, and his judgment must be respected at this stage. Anderson isn’t opposed to staying at his present club, Lazio, but his current contract situation means Villa might take advantage.
