Paul Merson described Leeds United as “phenomenal” on Sky Sports after Leicester lost another defeat in their quest for promotion.
The Foxes were beaten 1-0 by Bristol City on Good Friday, therefore if Leeds beat Watford on Friday night (March 29), they will be three points ahead at the top of the Championship table.
In response to the result, Merson told the Sky Sports Soccer Special panel (29 March, 14:35) that the work being done at Elland Road and with Ipswich was “mind-blowing”.
“Phenomenal, phenomenal job,” he stated.
“To be fair, Ipswich deserves special mention. Leeds have the ammunition, if you understand what I mean.
“Leeds are a massive club. No disrespect to Ipswich, but what they’re doing down there is incredible in my opinion.”
Leeds United have handled with expectations perfectly.
At the outset of the Championship season, Leeds were widely regarded as one of the favourites for promotion, and deservedly so.
The squad is really powerful, and everyone knew they were more than capable of winning if everything fell into place, and Daniel Farke has done an excellent job of ensuring that this happens.
Leicester were also among the favourites, but after a strong start this season, they have suffered in recent weeks and are currently slipping down the league.
The quality of the Leeds United squad is shining through, and as Merson points out, Ipswich deserve a lot of respect for what they did with a limited budget after being promoted from League One last season.
Leeds United deserves to be in the Premier League, and they now have a strong chance of regaining that status.
