Nottingham Forest could potentially receive a ‘six-point deduction’ as Wyness recommends a new twist

According to former Everton manager Keith Wyness, if Nottingham Forest fails to contest their first penalty, they could lose two more points.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, insisted the Premier League will want Forest and Everton’s cases “wrapped up nice and quickly”.

Nottingham Forest were penalized four points earlier this week (18 March) and are now in the Premier League relegation zone with nine games remaining this season.

Forest confessed breaking the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) by spending £34.5 million more than their permissible loss level of £61 million.

The Midlands club was set to receive a six-point penalty – three for the breach and three for the severity of the breach – but two points were deducted due to their cooperation with the process.

According to Wyness, Nottingham Forest’s appeal could result in more deductions.

However, Wyness stated that Forest could lose those points if they appealed the independent commission’s verdict

Wyness told Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast: “From the Premier League’s perspective, they don’t want this to continue and drag on any longer.

“Forest might be thinking, ‘Let’s simply accept the four points’.

“It could potentially go to six points if they appeal.

“The Premier League, which gave Forest two points back for good behavior, could deduct them again if they return and appeal.

“They want this all wrapped up nice and quickly.”
