Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive: Gary Neville comments on the Reds’ four-point deduction by the Premier League.
Gary Neville has shared his opinion on Nottingham Forest’s points deduction.
The Premier League charged the Reds with violating Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) earlier this year. As a result, Forest was punished four points by an independent committee, with confirmation arriving earlier this week.
Forest became the second club to be fined points this season, following Everton’s initial ten-point deduction, which was reduced to six. The initial sanction, imposed in November, was appealed by the Toffees.
Forest signed 23 players after being promoted to the Premier League in 2022, with an additional seven joining in January. A further 14 players were signed last summer, bringing the total number of signings since promotion to 43.
Speaking on the Stick to Football Podcast, Neville likened Forest’s expenditure to Chelsea’s, which has exceeded the “1 billion mark” in just three windows. Forest, meantime, has spent about £300 million.
“Nottingham Forest signed 20-odd players [last season],” he added in a statement. “I know eleven guys left the previous season, but if something doesn’t look right, it probably isn’t.
“It’s like Chelsea’s spending over the summer; it didn’t look right, and now they’re having problems with it.” It is insane what Forest is doing.
