Nottingham Forest appear to have just taken a subtle jab at the Premier League on their official account

Nottingham Forest were docked four points on Monday, and the club’s actions this morning suggest they’re still unhappy about the ordeal.

Brian Clough, the renowned manager, would have turned 89 today. The sad passing of the great boss came in 2003 and his memory eternally lingers in the hearts of Forest followers.

Clough won two European Cups with Forest, and the only prize that eluded him during his career was the FA Cup, which he said was a major regret when he departed.

Nottingham Forest take a laugh at the Premier League on Brian Clough’s birthday.

Despite being one of the greatest in the industry, Clough is likely to have despised the modern game. VAR would not have been his thing, and the fact that points deductions are now commonplace in football would not have appealed to him.

Forest are evidently still very angry with the Premier League’s decision. Today, they’ve neatly utilized Clough’s birthday to remind the world of one of his most famous remarks.

The club shared a photo of Clough in his signature green jumper on X, along with the quote: “We believe we should have a say in how our industry is handled. And I do mean “ours,” not “mind,” because football belongs to everyone.

We believe this is a clear statement from the football club. It’s a dig at the Premier League, with the powers that be seemingly hellbent on punishing Everton and Forest while allowing Chelsea and Manchester City to do whatever they want.

    Clough remembered on his birthday.

Clough’s success with Forest will never be duplicated at the City Ground. He led a newly promoted team to European Cup victory, and then won it again the following season.

Furthermore, Clough was arguably the best manager that the England national team has ever had. To be fair, he was never a yes guy, and the Football Association would not have wanted someone like that in control of their squad.

It’s always good to remember Clough at Forest. Okay, the golden days of his stay are a distant memory, but the Reds will try to remain in the Premier League this season with the hopes of making more memories in the future.
