Some information has emerged from the Nottingham Forest PSR report on the sale of forward Gustavo Scarpa. The 30-year-old was traded to Atletico Mineiro in January after only a few months at City Ground.
Forest were docked four points Wednesday, dropping the Reds into the Premier League’s relegation zone. Following the announcement, more details about Scarpa emerged.
During the January 2023 transfer window, Forest took a risk on Scarpa. However, the deal did not go as planned, as he only made ten appearances for the club before being loaned out to Olympiacos.

It’s safe to argue that Forest made the right decision by permanently releasing Scarpa. His European dream did not come true, and he would never make it in the Premier League.
Scarpa’s Premier League performances were decent, and after a 2-0 victory over Leicester, Ian Wright praised him as ‘outstanding’.
According to The Athletic, Forest earned £4.3 million when they sold Scarpa.
To suggest the club signed him on a free transfer is good business, and at least Forest made a profit on the excess player.
Scarpa has made nine appearances for his new team and has yet to score a goal since returning to Brazil.
Forest should learn from poor signings in the future.
At first glance, this appeared to be a low-risk transaction. Scarpa won the Golden Ball when Palmeiras won the title in 2022, so signing him on a free transfer seemed obvious.
Ultimately, things did not work out. Scarpa had injury difficulties at Forest and was forced to return to Brazil for a little spell after being duped financially.
However, Forest must learn lessons about recruitment. Scarpa never appeared to have the necessary quality for the Premier League, and a more thorough approach to the market is required in the future.
