The 20-year-old is certainly the best finisher at Leeds, and the statistics confirm it. – opinion

Leeds United already have three players sat on double figures for league goals this season, and two more are closing in.

Despite his current drought, Crysencio Summerville leads the pace having reached the back of the goal 15 times so far, with Dan James just behind on 12, and Joel Piroe on 11.

James and Piroe were key members of Daniel Farke’s best starting XI in the early half of the season, but injuries to the former and a loss of form for the latter have allowed others to emerge.

Patrick Bamford and Willy Gnonto have been vital players in Leeds’ 12-win streak in 13 league games, and they both have seven goals to their names.

And, while everyone on Leeds’ front line has scored some important goals, one guy stands out in terms of finishing.

Gnonto is Leeds’ highest overperformer of xG.

So far this season, Gnonto has an expected goals (xG) tally of only 4.2 in the league. XG is a metric that assesses the quality of a goal scoring opportunity.

This indicates that based on the opportunities Gnonto has had this season, he should have scored four out of five goals if he performed at his average.

However, according to Sofa Score, the 20-year-old has outperformed it by 2.8 points, the most of anyone in the squad. James is the next best at roughly 2.61, however his goals against Millwall and Cardiff City were much simpler than Gnonto’s.

Aside from his first of the season at Ipswich Town in August, all of Gnonto’s goals have come from some extremely clinical finishes in either one-on-one scenarios or low-xG circumstances, such as against Millwall on Sunday.

One thing is certain: if Leeds had a clear path to scoring the goal that would propel them to promotion, Gnonto would undoubtedly be the choice.
