Nottingham Forest and Everton’s FFP controversy creates a ‘chaotic’ relegation struggle as decision due

Latest Nottingham Forest news as the Reds await ruling on Profitability and Sustainability Rules infringement.

The Premier League charges against Nottingham Forest and Everton have resulted in a “chaotic” relegation battle.

The Reds could learn today whether they will be fined points for violating Profitability and Sustainability Rules. The Toffees have already lost 10 points, which were reduced to six on appeal, but they now face a second PSR charge.

Forest are currently outside the bottom three, but any deduction of more than three points will push them into the relegation zone. In that scenario, Luton Town, with whom Nuno Espirito Santo’s team drew 1-1 on Saturday, would be placed ahead of them.

Hatters manager Rob Edwards declined to comment on the Reds’ plight following the stalemate at Kenilworth Road. However, he admitted that it is impossible to gain a clear image of the battle for survival.

“I don’t want to talk hypothetically and what might be coming and what might not,” he told me. “I don’t think Forest are the only ones in this fight with us; there are other teams, so it was just a significant point nonetheless, because the job would have looked much more tough without it.

“It was just an essential subject, and I’m not comfortable discussing what may or may not happen when it’s not my football club. If it were my football club, I’d gladly speak about it, but it isn’t, and I have no influence over it.

“If (a decision) is made, I may be able to discuss it and what it means for us as a football club, but that has not yet happened. The first one is with Everton, and we’ve got to deal with that, but it’s chaotic and new to us all. I’m having a lot of firsts this year and new experiences, so if something happens, I might be able to talk about it more because we’re speculating a little.”

The Reds were charged with violating financial regulations in January. They met an independent committee earlier this month, and a ruling is expected this week, possibly today.
