Leeds United ascended to the top of the Championship table on Sunday afternoon, defeating Millwall to overtake Leicester City – and Gary Lineker has responded to our victory.
Lineker, a huge Leicester supporter who played for the club after coming through their system, is keen to see his beloved side promoted at the first attempt. They have sat on top for a long time.
Indeed, they were 17 points up at one point. But the Foxes have peaked and are struggling to produce results. Leicester were in action in the FA Cup over the weekend, facing Chelsea and losing 4-2.
“Edgy. I stated I’d rather win the FA Cup than be promoted. A trophy over returning to the Premier League, since we will win a lot more games next season. Now I’m afraid we’ll get neither.
Gary Lineker reacts as Leeds beat Millwall and go above Leicester.
Another strong victory, and the 12th league win in 13 games. Georginio Rutter spoke on promotion following the game, saying it will serve as a reminder to those in the Championship heading into the break that Leeds are a quality team.
There are eight more games to play, and Leeds may even need to maintain their unbeaten streak if they want to finish first. Not that it matters. Automatic advertising is exactly what we need.
But now it’s time to rest. Well-deserved. The Whites play Watford next Friday, but a number of players will be representing their country, notably the Wales quartet against Glen Kamara.
