Neil Harris, Millwall’s head coach, is looking forward to his team’s trip to Elland Road this weekend, believing it is one of the best ‘football theatres’ in the country.
Harris was just re-appointed at The Den after periods with Gillingham and Cambridge United this season, and he has led the Lions to three wins from his opening four games in his second term.
Harris, a popular personality in South-East London, played against Leeds eight times and won five of them. The former forward came off the bench to score the winning goal in Millwall’s League One play-off semi-final first leg against Leeds in 2009, and he also scored against United three times in the third division.
As a coach, Harris has a 50 percent victory percentage against Leeds, winning three and losing one of his six meetings, most recently as Cardiff City manager during United’s promotion-winning 2019/20 season. The 46-year-old is well aware of his positive record against the Whites and expects to extend it on Sunday.
Harris told NewsAtDen, as reported by Southwark News, “When West Ham, Palace, and Charlton aren’t in the league, then yeah Leeds is the next one [that I look forward to].”
“I’m lucky to have played, scored, and managed in a large number of these games, and I have an excellent record versus Leeds. I enjoy it, and I want my players to enjoy it.”
