Michael Skubala excels as a manager. His first permanent, senior role as gaffer at Lincoln City is going as well as he could have hoped, and it got even better on Tuesday night.
The 41-year-old was popular at Elland Road. Skubala joined the club as England’s futsal coach before taking over as our Under-21 boss. He made an impression throughout his time in charge.
Following Jesse Marsch’s dismissal in February 2023, Skubala was appointed caretaker manager and managed three Premier League games, including a draw at Old Trafford against rivals Manchester United.
He stayed at Leeds following the appointments of Javi Gracia, Sam Allardyce, and Daniel Farke. Skubala, on the other hand, took on his first senior managerial post with League One club Lincoln in November 2023.
A strong start, with two wins in his first four games. But that was followed by a 10-game losing streak across all competitions. Pressure is on. However, he has recently made a turnaround. Lincoln is presently 12 games unbeaten.
Michael Skubala wins 6-0 over Garry Monk’s Cambridge.
That stretch included seven wins and eight clean sheets. A stunning 5-1 away win over Barnsley on Saturday was followed by an even better performance on Tuesday night. A 6-0 home victory over Garry Monk’s new side Cambridge United.
Monk made his Cambridge managerial debut this weekend, securing a point at home against Northampton. However, Monk was embarrassed by Skubala on Tuesday night, as Lincoln ran riot and won handily.
Skubala has pushed Lincoln into ninth position, just three points away from the play-offs. Something that appeared quite implausible could now become a reality.
