‘Unfortunately’: Kieran McKenna reacts when questioned about Leeds overtaking Ipswich for second place

Leeds United had a near-perfect weekend after Ipswich Town were defeated 2-1 by Cardiff City on Saturday, following Leeds’ victory over Sheffield Wednesday – and Kieran McKenna reacted afterwards.

Leeds’ weekend has started off well. After absorbing Wednesday’s pressure in the first half, Patrick Bamford rose up at the back post to tap in Junior Firpo’s excellent low cross.

Daniel Farke praised the assist as “perfect”. In the second half, the Italians scored thanks to a wonderful goal by Bamford, Georginio Rutter, and Willy Gnonto. A 2-0 victory, bringing the total to 12 wins in 13 league games.

The emphasis was put back on Ipswich, who were next in action shortly after midday on Saturday. They traveled to Wales to face Cardiff, and it appeared that Kieffer Moore had led Ipswich to victory.

However, there was late drama. Cardiff won the game in the 100th minute, after an equaliser in the 95th. With nine games remaining, Leeds is in second place, and McKenna has given his opinion.

“Who knows?” To be honest, we haven’t considered a promotion race. Just think on ourselves, our journey, the next game, and do the best we can. We could have improved certain aspects of our performance.

“There was a strong second half.” Whether we won, drew, or lost today, it wouldn’t impact what we focus on or work on the next week,” McKenna was cited as saying by YEP.

What a weekend in Leeds. Not only did Ipswich lose, but Leicester also dropped points, resulting in a 2-2 tie away to Hull, which is still a great result given Hull’s performance this season.

With nine league games remaining, the Foxes are presently only three points ahead of Leeds. Leeds now holds the momentum among the top four clubs. There are still many twists and turns to come this season.
