Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis sent a blunt message regarding the Liverpool controversy

Evangelos Marinakis and Nuno Espirito Santo have been advised to be more concerned with Nottingham Forest’s lack of ruthlessness in front of goal than Liverpool’s contentious winner.

Forest appeared poised to earn a vital point against Jurgen Klopp’s team at the City Ground in the Premier League until Darwin Nunez struck a stoppage time winner. Nunez scored in the ninth minute of extra time to give Liverpool a 1-0 victory, but Forest were upset because referee Paul Tierney had paused play prior to Liverpool’s winner due to an apparent head injury to Ibrahima Konate.

Tierney blew with Forest in possession on the outskirts of the Liverpool penalty area. But, when Konate had quickly recovered, the match referee strangely dropped the ball to visiting goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, rather than a home player, who subsequently initiated the move that resulted in the thrilling winner.

However, in his Premier League Team of the Week selections for the BBC, former player Garth Crooks said: “The fact that Forest were incapable of putting the ball into the back of the Liverpool net despite creating so many chances should be of far greater concern to manager Nuno Espirito Santo and the club’s owner Evangelos Marinakis than the controversy surrounding the referee Forest are claiming cost them the game.”
