Stephen Warnock believes Nottingham Forest are missing a trick with Mark Clattenburg’s appointment as Referee Analyst.
This morning, the commentator spoke on Sky Sports News’ Ref Watch.
So, what has Warnock said about Forest’s appointment of Clattenburg? Let’s look more closely.
What Stephen Warnock believes Nottingham Forest should do with Mark Clattenburg.
On this morning’s Ref Watch, the focus was on Paul Tierney’s error over the weekend, which resulted in Forest losing the game.
Dermot Gallagher discussed Clattenburg’s role and explained that he was not able to communicate with the referee because he was not on the team sheet.
Finally, that thinking has given Warnock some fuel for thought, and he believes Forest are missing a trick.
He told Ref Watch on Sky Sports News, “Why wouldn’t you put him on the teamsheet as the designated person to talk with the referee?
“That is what perplexes me as a man who understands the rules and the game. Why is he there, then?
“Why don’t you put him on the designated teamsheet as the person to talk with the referee? He’d have every right to enter and see him then.”
Warnock has a point on Clattenburg.
Warnock’s appraisal is correct, and it’s interesting that Forest isn’t listing Clattenburg on the squad sheet.
Clatteburg’s role at Forest has previously been outlined, but there may be opportunities for him to contribute more in the future.
Had Clattenburg been allowed to challenge Tierney on Saturday, Forest would have had a better idea of why he made the decision he did.
Forest must put this one aside and prepare to face Brighton next weekend.
Given Warnock’s comments, it raises the question of whether Forest will consider handing Clattenburg more responsibilities in future.
