After Luis Sinisterra and Robin Koch signed permanent contracts, Leeds United are expected to lose Max Wöber to Borussia Monchengladbach.
Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League resulted in a number of concerning transfer developments, with the club no longer able to compete for signings as they had previously, and they were also helpless to prevent crucial first-team players from going on loan.
Max Wöber was one of them, moving to the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach while maintaining his own top flight status.
Max Wöber plans to make Monchengladbach’s relocation permanent – report
Wöber’s loan with the German club appears to be working well, despite his team having one of the division’s poorest defensive records.
According to Gladbach Live, his performance has impressed enough to make his loan permanent.
“In the professional squad, the transfer plans for two players at Borussia Mönchengladbach are already clear: Max Wöber (26) and Jordan Siebatcheu (27) are to be maintained over the coming summer.”
Wöber joined Leeds just over a year ago from Red Bull Salzburg for about £10 million.
Leeds may be making their money back and more on Wöber.
It is unclear how much money is being negotiated for Wöber to stay at Monchengladbach, but Leeds are likely to have only agreed to it if it is financially beneficial to them.
Leeds will not want to let him go for a low sum after signing him for £10 million 14 months ago, since it would result in a loss even after deducting a portion of his contract.
Should the club receive an eight-figure price for the Austrian, it is solid business regardless of the club’s tier next season.
His worth is unlikely to increase significantly from here, thus cashing in makes perfect sense to obtain money in that can be reinvested.
Wöber’s sale might help us fund Joe Rodon’s permanent signing, which is worth it in and of itself.
