Nottingham Forest were outraged following their contentious stoppage-time defeat to Liverpool yesterday.
Darwin Nunez’s goal in the ninth minute of stoppage time secured victory for Jurgen Klopp’s team, which remains top of the Premier League. However, the goal provoked heated scenes at full-time, as Forest believed Paul Tierney had made a huge mistake before the goal.
When Ibrahima Konate had a head injury, play was halted, and Liverpool was handed possession of the ball when play restarted, despite Forest being in possession at the time.
Forest coach Steven Reid was chastised for his concerns by owner Evangelos Marinakis, who was present on the pitch. Nuno refused to debate the referee after the game, but fans have come out in his support on social media, and here’s what they said.
PDNFFC: “Hopefully, we’ll see some appreciation for him from the larger fan base. Would improve the mood both on and off the pitch. However, a couple of wins would also be beneficial.”
ED O34: “You know what, this team under Nuno can prosper with time. We desperately need a positive hearing, and I am confident we will be a mid-table team next season. It’s just a matter of making sure we stay up this season. Both players and supporters must be on their best for some major matchups.
City Ground Shelf: “The owner is broken. Nuno is broken. We are all broken. We can’t let yesterday ruin our season. “I still believe we can get the points we need this season and beat the teams around us.”
Osh Jones: “After sleeping on it, the guy I really feel sorry for is Nuno.” It must be quite irritating to develop a game plan to limit the division’s best team to one shot on target throughout the game and then lose that point so late. We should have put that game away well before the controversy.”
Martin Wayman: “All of our complaining will not bring justice to the injustices we have experienced this season. Why can’t the PL investigate these heinous choices after the fact and take appropriate discipline against these so-called professional referees, when CLEARLY VAR is just as much to fault.”
NFFCOYR: “In the midst of yesterday’s commotion, we needed to send Nuno flowers. Our playing approach has clearly changed, and we have made significant progress in recent weeks. We show him the highest respect, and we may stay in the Prem.”
Andrew Mozley: “He’s had a significant impact on the style of play.” Fans are not yet showing him any respect. Deserves. Wake up and support Nuno and Forest.”
