David Prutton has shared his thoughts on Leeds United and Southampton’s promotion back to the Premier League.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post on March 2, the Sky Sports expert believes Leeds can reduce Leicester’s six-point lead.
He also believes Russell Martin can get Southampton back on track after a few disappointing results recently.
He stated, “Six points is absolutely surmountable, and I believe it leaves not only second place but also first place wide open.” That’s fantastic that we’re covering and looking at it. Leeds needs to keep themselves honest. Southampton have had a difficult week, but knowing Russell Martin as I do, he will be determined to set things right.
“There will be changes between now and then, and I’ll be interested to see what the final top two look like. We are now approaching single digit games in a season in which Leeds began slowly but has since accelerated to second place.
“I think Leeds can accomplish it this year, because they’ve gotten used to Premier League games after three years in the top level. But you shouldn’t get too comfortable with Premier League games because they can come back to bite you, as they have.”
Leeds United appear to be favourites for the Championship.
Leeds’ recovery under Daniel Farke, as well as the good form of key players like as Archie Gray, the exit-linked Crysencio Summerville, and Joe Rodon, suggests that the team’s aspirations may naturally shift towards chasing the Championship title rather than settling for a top-two finish.
Farke’s influence has helped the group gel, resulting in attractive and effective football.
The six-point gap between Leeds and Leicester, the current league leaders, feels manageable, especially given the team’s momentum.
Furthermore, with Southampton suffering issues, Leeds may see this as an opportunity to take the top spot.
Martin’s resolve to get Southampton back on track may provide a competitive advantage, but Leeds, with their current form and depth, appear to be in contention for the top spot.
Daniel Farke has made Leeds United play attractive football. As the season goes, the Leeds camp’s attention may inevitably turn towards winning the Championship rather than settling for automatic promotion.
