Leeds United right-back Connor Roberts scored his first goal for the club last Friday, igniting an incredible comeback at Elland Road.
Leeds’ most recent Championship triumph was their largest yet, with a comeback victory over Leicester City extending their winning streak to nine games.
With the margin to first place reduced to six points, the promotion race has become even more exciting, with 11 points separating first and fourth in the table.
Connor Roberts is eager for more vital participation after his first goal for Leeds.
Georginio Rutter’s driving run ignited the comeback in the 80th minute, when Jannik Vestergaard’s poor clearance put Connor Roberts in the path of the ball.
Roberts made no mistake as he fired into the far corner for his first goal since coming on loan from Burnley, but as he ran back to the Leeds half for kick-off, he was visibly telling teammates that he felt a winner was on the way.
It threw the stadium into raptures, surpassing any moment in recent history, and Roberts will be hoping for more like it soon.
Roberts recalls tremendous fan support on social media.
Speaking on the Official Leeds United podcast, Roberts expressed his surprise at the degree of support he has received since joining the Whites for the second half of the season.
Even through social media, he has seen that the Leeds are far superior to anything he has seen in his career, having previously played for Burnley and Swansea. He said:
“It’s foolish to say, but you upload a photo on social media at my past teams and it’s wonderful; all of the fans say what they say and congratulate you for scoring.
“But then I do it for Leeds, and it goes viral, resulting in the most likes you’ve ever received. It just puts in perspective how many fans Leeds has. It’s a little mental, to be honest.”
Roberts is enjoying life at Leeds right now.
He’s barely been here a month, but the Welshman is clearly enjoying his time in Leeds right now.
That Leicester win is most likely something he has never seen before in his career, just as many Leeds fans have never seen a crowd like that before.
It is up to him and the rest of the team to generate more moments like that between now and the season’s conclusion in May.
