Aston Villa are said to be interested in a 20-year-old that Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly asked Manchester United to recruit a few years ago.
According to Sky Sports News, the Villans are one of several clubs interested in Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards.
In addition to Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and West Ham are said to be interested in the centre-back.
According to the report, Peterborough wants a £4.5 million down payment as well as “sizeable add-ons” for Edwards.
According to The Independent, Posh are looking for a total of £10 million for their in-demand star.
Sir Alex Ferguson has given Aston Villa target Ronnie Edwards his blessing.
Villa are now flying high. Now that they are contending for the Premier League title, it is a wonderful moment for them to try to add excellent players and potential.
Meanwhile, Peterborough has established itself as a treasure trove. And Edwards appears to be the next Posh talent on the rise.
Indeed, England U21 boss Lee Carsley is set to visit Peterborough’s FA Cup third-round match against Leeds to see Edwards.
Edwards has already made 116 appearances for the League One team at the age of 20.
He’s a classy centre-half who can play out from the back, is composed on the ball, is excellent at reading the game, and can be dangerous going forward.
The Sun reported in 2021 that Sir Alex Ferguson had pushed Manchester United to make a move for him. That is how gifted Edwards is.
Could Villa now succeed where Manchester United has failed? Could Unai Emery and his team deliver one of the EFL’s most promising young players to the Premier League?
