Things are heating up at the top of the Championship, but Sky Sports commentator Tim Sherwood feels Leeds United can stave off the push from Ipswich and Southampton to gain promotion.
Pundit Tim Sherwood is keen for Leeds United to return to the Premier League. The Whites start their Championship promotion chase tomorrow against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town.
Things are heating up at the top of the standings, with United now holding the last automatic promotion spot. They are second in the rankings with 72 points, just six behind leaders Leicester City.
However, third-placed Ipswich Town is close behind the Whites. They are only behind Daniel Farke’s club in terms of goal differential. Southampton have slid to fourth place, five points behind the automatic promotion spots, following a disappointing run of play.
When asked about United and Ipswich, Sherwood told talkSPORT: “Both are really highly supported. But Leeds is one of my favourite grounds to visit. I’ve always enjoyed playing there.
The former Tottenham manager believes the Whites will retain their nerve and beat Ipswich in the promotion race. “I just think Leeds, I really do,” he went on to say. “I want them returned. I want them back in the Premier League. I’ve got nothing against Ipswich. Kieran McKenna has done an excellent job, but if I had to pick one, Elland Road. “I want that back.”
The Whites arrive at John Smith’s Stadium fresh off a nine-game league winning streak. They dominated the Terriers when they last met in October, winning 4-1 at Elland Road.
