Daniel Farke, Leeds United manager, may not have four of his top attacking players to pick from in the FA Cup this week.
Georginio Rutter, Patrick Bamford, Crysencio Summerville, and Dan James are all listed as doubtful for Wednesday’s trip to Chelsea, with Farke looking to safeguard his most key attacking players ahead of Saturday’s Championship match against Huddersfield Town.
Leeds’ primary goal this season is to return to the Premier League, despite the team’s cup run, which may see them reach the quarterfinals with a surprise victory over Carabao Cup finalists Chelsea this week.
Here is the XI Farke is expected to name at Stamford Bridge.
1. Illan Meslier – GK
Meslier, the Whites’ goalkeeper, is expected to maintain his position.
2. Connor Roberts – RB
Roberts may make his full debut in Leeds’ cup match against the Blues.
3. Joe Rodon – CB
Rodon is expected to play a key role in Farke’s defensive strategy.
4. Ethan Ampadu – CB
Given the level of the opponent, Farke may pick ex-Chelsea player Ampadu beside Rodon over the more experienced Liam Cooper.
5. Junior Firpo – LB
Firpo is set to play at left-back, with Sam Byram maybe coming off the bench.
6. Ilia Gruev — CM
Since the turn of the year, the midfielder has delivered a number of promising displays.
