Leeds United centre-back Charlie Cresswell recently expressed his frustrations to Daniel Farke about his lack of playing time, but he has lately played for the U21s.
Leeds’ squad depth and skill in their starting lineup this season is not good news for those youngsters who are struggling to receive the playing time they require for growth.
Charlie Cresswell is one of such players, having made only a few appearances this season with Joe Rodon firmly established as the right-center-back.
Charlie Cresswell plays for Leeds U21s this week.
After a long trip to Plymouth Argyle for the first team, the U21s faced Chelsea at home in the Premier League 2 on Monday afternoon.
The Blues won 2-0 against a Leeds young side that appears to be depleted in the second part of the season.
Cresswell, on the other hand, started at centre-back and played the entire 90 minutes to maintain his match sharpness to the greatest extent feasible.
Surely Cresswell isn’t delighted to be back in youth football.
Cresswell was frozen out of the squad at the start of 2024, and Farke said that the centre-back carried his frustrations too far when he expressed them to the boss.
Cresswell demonstrated his ability to more than hold his own against Championship opponents after being loaned out to Millwall last season, and while he is not at the same level as Leeds’ other senior centre-back alternatives, he will see this season as a significant step backwards.
That was before he was named to the starting lineup for the U21s, a team he was hoping to leave via a loan last season.
It doesn’t imply his future is suddenly uncertain, but he will undoubtedly want more than he is currently receiving.
