Pedro Porro is quickly winning over fans at Tottenham.
The Spaniard struggled at Spurs under Antonio Conte last season, but he’s fared much better this season.
Porro has been outstanding as a marauding right-back in this all-attacking Spurs lineup.
However, the £39 million man still has work to do in certain areas of his game.
With all due respect, Porro isn’t the best defender, and you can tell he prefers to get forward.
Keith Treacy has been analyzing Porro’s skill and style of play on Off The Ball, and he says he’s still not a fan of the right-back because he doesn’t believe Porro can defend.
Porro cannot support
Treacy’s assessment on the full-back.
“I’m not sure he walks into the Arsenal team.” Pedro Porro is definitely a talented footballer; he plays in the Premier League, he’s a decent footballer, but he’s not a good right-back; he can’t defend. People say Trent Alexander-Arnold is the best right-back in the world, but he can’t defend, as I’ve previously stated. If your name is going to be on the right-back position, you have to be able to defend in some way, and Pedro Porro does not appear to be capable of doing so. If I were a coach facing the Spurs, I would tell them to isolate him and run at him all day,” Treacy said.
Bettering oneself
It would have been very appropriate to level this criticism at Porro last season, but the right-back has greatly improved in recent weeks.
Yes, he’s not flawless, but he’s also not a burden in the backfield.
Spurs could have easily crumbled defensively in the midst of their recent injury crisis, but because to a superb collective effort, they’ve won four of their last five games.
Porro isn’t a particularly good defender, but he’s working hard to improve in that area.
