This week, Leeds United hired Martin Diggle from Liverpool to become the club’s new Academy Manager, marking another behind-the-scenes 49ers move.
Following relegation, the 49ers have had their hands full cleaning up the damage Andrea Radrizzani left behind, both on and off the field.
With the squad in need of investment, the club’s boardroom and infrastructure also required upgrading, including important acquisitions.
Leeds to confirm Martin Diggle’s appointment as Academy Manager from Liverpool.
Training Ground Guru reported this week that Leeds had made another off-field move in 2024, bringing in Martin Diggle from Liverpool as the new Academy Manager.
He leaves Anfield after five years as Head of Coach Development, where he aimed to support all coaches in the Reds’ academy.
Before he joined Liverpool in this job, he previously worked for the FA, as well as at Oldham Athletic, Bolton Wanderers and as a lecturer at Leeds Beckett University.
49ers make further significant behind-the-scenes alterations
After being demoted from the Premier League, the team need a complete overhaul, and the 49ers are doing just that.
After investing heavily in the squad for a promotion push, we’re seeing plenty of signs behind the scenes that Leeds’ long-term prospects look promising.
These types of appointments may not appear to be a big thing on paper, but when combined with the numerous others who are coming in for crucial roles at the club, we have moved up since the summer, which is outstanding in the second division.
Appointing Jordan Miles as Head of Recruitment is another significant agreement, and it appears that we now have a lot more stable boardroom and structure outside of the playing and coaching staff.
