He joined the team last summer and has yet to make an impact.
Since their promotion back to the Premier League in May 2022, Nottingham Forest has displayed a scattergun attitude to the transfer market.
Since winning the play-off final at Wembley, the Reds have added 34 new players, with owner Evangelos Marinakis spending over £200 million on new players in the hopes of establishing the club as a modern-day Premier League team.
The club has uncovered several gems from all around the world, with youngsters Murillo, Danilo, and Nicolas Dominguez all entering since promotion, and the trio has proven good value for money, potentially earning the club a large profit in the coming years.
Not all of Forest’s signings have been successful, with players like Emmanuel Dennis and Giulian Biancone joining for over £10 million but failing to make an impact on Trentside – with the latter leaving permanently after only one substitute appearance for the club.
Despite the duo’s lack of influence at Forest, one player appears to have been a complete catastrophe since joining the club during last summer’s transfer window.
Divock Origi’s Forest Record
After another frenetic window at the City Ground, Forest added 14 new players, with the Reds hoping to improve on their 16th-place performance in the Premier League 2022/23 season.
The club made investments all over the pitch, including signing Divock Origi on loan from Serie A side AC Milan, who became the Reds’ third striker after Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood.
Since his arrival in August, the former Liverpool striker has played 11 games for Forest, starting only two of them, with Origi being substituted after 26 minutes against Bournemouth due to Willy Boly’s contentious red card.
Under Nuno Espírito Santo, the 28-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the City Ground, with no goals or assists.
How much has Divock Origi cost Nottingham Forest?
The arrangement to lure Origi to the City Ground saw the club cover 100% of the striker’s wages, with Forest currently paying the Belgian £125,000 per week – the highest salary in the Forest squad.
Origi’s loan move to the City Ground has cost the club £3 million in salary so far. By the conclusion of the season, the club will have paid £6.25 million for a player who is unlikely to join permanently.
According to Capology, his weekly income of £125k is £40k more than the club’s second-highest earner Felipe and £70k more than current Reds starting striker Awoniyi – an outrageous sum given his current goal return.
Although he has previously scored 22 Premier League goals, the transfer for Origi has proven to be a fiasco for both parties, with Forest squandering a significant amount of money on a striker who will only play 20 minutes per game.
The loanee was linked with a move to the MLS in January, but no deal materialised, leaving Forest presumably trapped with the expensive forward until the end of the season.
