Nottingham Forest elected to offload Orel Mangala during the summer transfer window, and he’s now revealing why he wanted to depart in January.
The midfielder has spoken on the official website of his new club, Lyon. So, what did Mangala have to say about his exit from Forest? Let’s look more closely.
What Orel Mangala stated about leaving Nottingham Forest.
Mangala appears to have pushed to leave the Reds this summer, with Ligue 1 being a surprising destination. Forest accepted a deal that included Mangala moving on loan to Lyon, with a required option to buy him in the summer.
The midfielder has been a fixture in the team this season, and Who Scored ranks him as one of the finest midfielders in the squad.
However, the central midfield ranks are well-stocked, thus Forest chose to cash in on Mangala. Mangala has finally revealed his choice to leave Forest, and he is looking forward to the next challenge.
He told the club’s official website, “It’s an appealing Championship, a bit underappreciated in my opinion. There are some very talented players emerging, and the level is high.
“OL remains an appealing club with a successful history. There are good infrastructures. It is a club that is not deserving of its current status. “I came here because I was interested in the project.”
Mangala is a player the Reds could do without.
Despite his excellent showing in 2023/24, Mangala was part of a highly well-stocked midfield.
Danilo, Nicolas Dominguez, Ryan Yates, and Ibrahim Sangare are the Reds’ Trentside starters, along with Cheikhou Kouyate.
Mangala’s departure wasn’t ideal because he was performing so well. With FFP lurking in the background, the deal does make sense.
