Lyle Taylor was released by Nottingham Forest in the summer, and he was in trouble again on Tuesday night while playing for Cambridge United.
Several stories on X documented the moment in which Taylor was red-carded for his new team. So, what did former Forest striker Taylor do to get himself into trouble on Tuesday night? Let’s look more closely.
Former Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor was sent off for Cambridge.
Taylor had a disappointing night as Cambridge lost 2-1 to Bolton at The Abbey Stadium. The result moves Cambridge five points clear of the relegation zone, and Taylor will now miss three matches.
Taylor’s move to Forest was not very successful for the striker, who had previously been at Charlton.
He scored only eight goals in 61 games, with his most noteworthy scores coming against Bristol City during the promotion-winning season.
On that occasion, he scored twice in injury time to help Forest win 2-1 against the Robins; now, things were completely different.
Taylor received a straight red card after elbowing Bolton defender Joe Iredale off the ball while Cambridge was chasing the game.
To be fair, his move to the League One club hasn’t been disastrous, and he’s scored three goals in eight games.
Forest fans will not be surprised by this.
Taylor was a strong personality throughout his tenure at Forest. He never overstepped the mark, but he always wore his heart on his sleeve.
He may find things frustrating now that he has been relegated to League One.
Obviously, this was one of those instances. As a result, Taylor must learn from this experience if he wants to secure a new contract with Cambridge.
Taylor’s departure in the summer of 2023 was a relief for the Forest.
He spent the entire 2022/23 season kicking his heels and training separately from the first squad. Ultimately, the payments paid to Taylor were not optimum for Forest.
